Dr. Butler grew up in Washington state, went to college at Portland State where he obtained his Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering. He then spent 10 years as an Engineer, working for several companies including Intel, Diodes, & Watlow, before applying to medical school. Medical school was completed at AT Still University, which gave him the opportunity to learn the effective use of osteopathic manipulative medicine in addition to the traditional western medical school curriculum. This was followed by a 3 year residency in family medicine, during which time Dr. Butler completed the integrated medicine in residency program through the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine. After residency, he worked at a rural health clinic in family medicine for several years during which time he obtained training in dry needling, until deciding to join his wife, Gina, at Columbia Integrative Health.
